Climbing peak of São Tomé

Pico de São Tomé is the highest mountain in São Tomé and Príncipe at 2,024 metres. It lies just west of the centre of São Tomé Island in the Obo National Park and is inside Lembá District due west of the district boundaries of Cantagalo and Caué as well as the village of Bombaim and due east of Santa Catarina. The second highest point, Pico Ana Chaves, lies to its south east.

The mountain is clad in forest. On the lower slopes are plantations of coffee and cocoa, and higher up are large trees swathed in orchids, lichens and other epiphytes. The upper parts of the mountain are often swathed in mist. It can be climbed from two sides. One way starts above the Ponta Figo plantation and necessitates a camp at Pico Mesa at 1,875 m (6,152 ft). The summit can then be reached in about an hour before descending via Carvalho to the Bombaim Plantation house. The other route ascends from the botanic garden at Bom Sucesso to Carvalho where there is a rest area and camping facilities. On the next day, the summit can be reached with a descent being made to Ponta Figo. The ascent can be made in a single eighteen hour hike from Ponta Figo, but this does not allow much time for viewing the flora and fauna. The trek is not difficult but the often rainy weather tends to make the path very slippery.

Tour Description:

The trekking starts early in the morning from one of the chosen starting points, which will then be informed to the customer. To reach the starting point, depending on where the customer is lodging, a transfer (Extra Cost) may be required.

For climbing in 1 day, the route is all done in no-stop mode in an 18-hour hike.

For climbing in 2 days, the route is made on the first day, with several climbs and descents and rest at night in a rest point and the final climb is made on the second day and descent.

Subida ao Pico São Tomé

O Pico de São Tomé é a montanha mais alta de São Tomé e Príncipe com 2.024 metros. Situa-se a oeste do centro da Ilha de São Tomé no Parque Nacional do Obo e está dentro do distrito de Lembá a oeste dos limites dos distritos de Cantagalo e Caué, bem como a vila de Bombaim e a leste de Santa Catarina. O segundo ponto mais alto, o Pico Ana Chaves, situa-se a sudeste.

A montanha é revestida de floresta. Nas encostas mais baixas estão plantações de café e cacau, e mais acima estão grandes árvores envoltas em orquídeas, líquens e outras epífitas. As partes superiores da montanha são muitas vezes envoltas em névoa. Pode ser escalado de dois lados. Um caminho começa acima da plantação de Ponta Figo e necessita de um acampamento em Pico Mesa a 1.875 m (6.152 pés). O cume pode ser alcançado em cerca de uma hora antes de descer via Carvalho até a casa da Plantação de Bombaim. O outro percurso sobe do jardim botânico do Bom Sucesso até Carvalho onde existe uma zona de descanso e parque de campismo. No dia seguinte, chega-se ao cume com uma descida até à Ponta Figo. A subida pode ser feita numa única caminhada de dezoito horas a partir de Ponta Figo, mas isto não permite muito tempo para a observação da flora e fauna. A caminhada não é difícil, mas o tempo muitas vezes chuvoso tende a tornar o caminho muito escorregadio.

Para escalar em 1 dia, o percurso é todo feito no modo sem paradas em uma caminhada de 18 horas.

Para escalada em 2 dias, o percurso é feito no primeiro dia, com várias subidas e descidas e descanso noturno em ponto de descanso e a subida final é feita no segundo dia e descida.

Escalade au sommet de Sao Tome

Le Pico de São Tomé est la plus haute montagne de São Tomé et Príncipe à 2 024 mètres. Il se trouve juste à l'ouest du centre de l'île de São Tomé dans le parc national d'Obo et se trouve à l'intérieur du district de Lembá à l'ouest des limites du district de Cantagalo et Caué ainsi que du village de Bombaim et à l'est de Santa Catarina. Le deuxième point le plus élevé, Pico Ana Chaves, se trouve au sud-est.

La montagne est recouverte de forêt. Sur les pentes inférieures se trouvent des plantations de café et de cacao, et plus haut se trouvent de grands arbres recouverts d'orchidées, de lichens et d'autres épiphytes. Les parties supérieures de la montagne sont souvent enveloppées de brume. Il peut être escaladé des deux côtés. Une voie commence au-dessus de la plantation de Ponta Figo et nécessite un camp à Pico Mesa à 1 875 m (6 152 pi). Le sommet peut ensuite être atteint en une heure environ avant de redescendre via Carvalho jusqu'à la maison Bombaim Plantation. L'autre itinéraire monte du jardin botanique de Bom Sucesso à Carvalho où se trouvent une aire de repos et des installations de camping. Le lendemain, le sommet peut être atteint avec une descente vers Ponta Figo. L'ascension peut être effectuée en une seule randonnée de dix-huit heures depuis Ponta Figo, mais cela ne laisse pas beaucoup de temps pour observer la faune et la flore. Le trek n'est pas difficile mais le temps souvent pluvieux a tendance à rendre le chemin très glissant.

Descriptif de la visite :

Le trekking commence tôt le matin à partir de l'un des points de départ choisis, qui seront ensuite informés au client. Pour rejoindre le point de départ, selon l'endroit où le client se loge, un transfert (coût supplémentaire) peut être nécessaire.

Pour une ascension en 1 journée, le parcours se fait entièrement en mode sans escale en une randonnée de 18 heures.

Pour une ascension en 2 jours, le parcours se fait le premier jour, avec plusieurs montées et descentes et repos la nuit dans un point de repos et la montée finale se fait le deuxième jour et descente.

Trekking to Santa Joaquina Lookout.

In this trail the visitor will pass through the transition zone and buffer zone of the biosphere reserve, as well as the nucleus zone, which corresponds to the protected area of the natural park.
You can see several species of endemic fauna and flora.
The trekking ends in a fantastic viewpoint facing the bay of Santo António.

Trekking to Pico Papagaio.

It is one of the highest peaks of the island of prince and with accesses that allow to reach the highest point. The peak is located in the heart of the natural park, where it will be possible to observe endemic species such as the Tordo of the prince, the parrot, monkeys and other species.

At the highest point, the client will enjoy a unique view to different points of the island.
